Valeria Denisse García is a senior at St. Mary’s University double majoring in Speech Communication and Spanish with a minor in Visual Communication Design. With a 3.7 GPA and a passion for service, García hopes to one day become a leader in the nonprofit sector.
García’s involvement on campus and in the community has opened many doors of opportunity. Some of her most outstanding achievements include being selected to be part of the Marianist Leadership Program, President’s Ambassadors, and the International Immersion Program.
García has also had the opportunity to intern at the University Health System Foundation where she contributed to the foundation’s public relations, fundraising and event management team. In addition, in the summer of 2017, she landed a job as the nonprofit management intern in New York City with one of the most recognized public policy think tanks called The Century Foundation where she worked for the development office. Through her involvement in extracurricular organizations and her professional development experiences, García has managed to receive a number of awards that highlight her achievements such as being recognized as a Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar, Servant-Leader Awardee and part of the Dean’s List. Upon graduation, García hopes to attend Indiana University and pursue a master’s degree in nonprofit management after spending a year of service abroad.
